Arthur Kane - New York Doll

I saw the Documentary on Arthur Kane, "New York Doll". It was bittersweet, but I do recommend seeing it. I met Arthur Kane around 1985 when his wife, Barbara worked at Pet Depo. My Mother was shopping there and stuck up a conversation with his bleached blonde wife and told her that her son was in a band. Barbara said, "My husband was in the New York Dolls." When my Mother told me, I asked her if she heard this lady correctly. "THE NEW YORK DOLLS!!" When I was convinced I had her drive me to the Pet Co right away to meet her. I told her I had a rehersal space and shortly thereafter Arthur and I ended up jaming. My bandmate Ed, from across the alley joined in too. Arthur just wanted to play and didn't have an ego about his past. We got together quite a bit during that time and kept in contact over the years. When his wife left him, he tried to kill himself and it took a year for him to fully recover. When I started my Merchandising Company, I got in contact with Arthur again and made some New York Dolls shirts. Once I sold the company and started doing photography full time, Arthur sent me an email and said he had found my website and really liked it. I met with him one more time and he was in good spirits, but always talking about the New York Dolls and it was clear he resented David Johansen's success. Especially since he was having such a tough time just surviving. I was happy to see in this movie he had one last shining moment before he passed away. The last email I got from him was about six Months before he died and he told me things were looking up and he was very optimistic about the future. I will miss Arthur. He was a kind & sensitive guy and he taught me a lot about the music industry and life.

Sam - The World's Ugliest Dog

I was watching CNN this morning and they had a story on Sam - The World's Ugliest Dog. Susie, his owner adopted him about 5 years ago, after an animal shelter marked him as un-adopatble. Sam's won the World's Ugliest Dog contest three times since. He's blind, ornery and I think he's great. I bought a magnet from the website. YOU RULE SAM!!!

Vincent Gallo - The Brown Bunny

The U.S. version of Vincent Gallo's The Brown Bunny was just released on DVD. It's a slow movie, but really worth seeing. It's the kind of movie that you think about long after it's over. Cheryl Tiegs was a brilliant casting call. She looks like a beautifully burned out model. If that doesn't make you want to see it, then at least watch it for the Chloe Sevigny blow job scene! The Soundtrack is incredible too. John Frusciante has some amazing songs on it, but unfortunately they are not in the movie. Vincent Gallo said they helped him make the movie and he listened to them while he was filming The Brown Bunny, but decided to leave them out. This is The Brown Bunny billboard on Sunset Blvd, before the City made them take it down.

Germs - L.A. Times Article

My longtime friend, Shana Ting Lipton wrote a great artice for the L.A. Times this Week titled Rekindling the Punk Flame. The article is about the new Germs movie "What We Do is Secret" and other movies in the works that cover Punk Rock in the late 70's and early 80's. I remember buying the Germs (GI) at Rhino Records when I was in the 7th grade. During that time I bought some records by L.A. bands that changed my life forever: Black Flag - Damaged, Descendents - Milo Goes to College, Circle Jerks - Group Sex, Adolescents, Social Distortion's 1945 single. The list goes on.

Six Feet Under - Ends

Well, the best show on TV, Six Feet Under has come to a gut wrenching end. The last episode tonight was one of the most depressing things I’ve ever seen on TV. I didn’t think anything could top the episode where David gets abducted, but this one did. It was like Old Yeller X10 and anyone who says they didn't shed a tear is a fucking liar! Having said that, I've seen every episode and I am really going to miss this show. Season 4 is going to be available on DVD this Tues. The Soundtrack is really great too and features unreleased songs by The Arcade Fire (great song), Interpol and Caesars.

Randy "Biscuit" Turner - R.I.P.

Randy "Biscuit" Turner from the legendary punk band Big Boys was found dead Thurs. I bought my first Big Boys record when I was in the 7th grade and I've been a fan ever since. I had the pleasure of spending time with Randy last Summer when he and Chris Shary came to Los Angeles for a couple days for an Art opening they were both in. When he returned home, he sent Barbara & I a postcard, thanking us for showing him around. Randy was a warm, kind person and an amazing singer and artist. He will be missed.

Ween - Shinola Vol. 1

I was suprised to see Ween had a new Cd out. I'm a big fan of their music and Shinola Vol. 1 has some amazing songs. There's a great song called 'Monique the Freak' that sounds like Ween covering Prince. Totally fucked up in a good way. Shinola Vol. 1 sounds like White Pepper meets The Mollusk - two must haves. It may be an outtakes CD. Check out this Fuck Olive Garden thing on Weens' website. Too funny.

Bob Mould - Body of Song

I picked up the new Bob Mould cd, Body of Sound and I really dig it. His records can be hit or miss, but this one's a winner. I've been a big fan since the Husker Du days and I saw them on the New Day Rising tour. Nothing is gonna top that show, but I saw Bob Mould solo at First Avenue in Mpls, when Chemical People played the small room on the same night. That was a memorable show too.

Dian Hanson's History of Men's Magazines Vol. 4

If you were going to buy one of these books, Dian Hanson's History of Men's Magazines Vol.4 would be the one I recommend. This book covers 1958-1967 and has some of the most amazing decor, models & photos I've ever seen. I wish I could travel back to these times and take photographs. Even the models were exactly what I love to shoot. Girls with full bodies and amazing hair. The book covers: Elmer Batters, Beehive Mania and Irving Claw and Bettie Page.

Natasha - The Lost Brady - Finally Legal

The October 2005 Issue of Finally Legal came out and it Features a Layout I shot of Natasha. This set originally ran in Barely Legal. The editor of Barely Legal said Natasha was 'the lost Brady', from the Brady Bunch. I must agree and think of all the great episodes that we missed out on not having her on the show (even though she wasn't born yet). She really would have spiced up the show and maybe it would have gone a few more Seasons.

Nobuyoshi Araki - Arakimentari

I watched a documentary on Nobuyoshi Araki called, Arakimentari last night. I never realized Araki was so animated, not only when he shoots, but all the time. It was a very inspirational movie and featured interviews with Bjork, Richard Kern and Takeshi Kitano.
On to a completely different subject, I saw Sharon Stone on Leno and she looked amazing. A couple years ago I met her at the Wolford store and she helped me pick out a top for a shoot. Yes, you heard me right. She noticed I was having problems finding what I needed and she just came right up to me and introduced herself and asked what I was looking for. Then she picked the top I ended up buying.

Samantha Ryan

I shot Samantha Ryan the other day. She's quite the leggy gal. I took this shot before she had make up on.

Dian Hanson's History of Men's Magazines Vol.3

I picked up Dian Hanson's History of Men's Magazines Vol.3. I enjoyed Vol.2, but the next four volumes are my favorite era in Porn. This is the more tame edition with magazines you could get on the newstand, but there are some amazing photos. Some of the Highlights include: Jane Mansfield, Jane Fonda & Bettie Page. There's also a girl with the most amazing afro, that's worth the price of the book alone. Awesome.

Barbara's Show

Barbara's show on Sat at Sometimes Maddness is Wisdom went very well and there was a great crowd. This photo of me, Tristan Taormino, & Barbara was shot before the place got packed. Be sure to check out Tristan's book, The Ultimate Guide to Anal Sex for Women. Your girlfriend will enjoy it and what better way to break the ice?
